With that said, I must admit following the First Ascent link and clicking over to the women's section has me laughing. They don't just shrink it and pink it , they design clothes for women's needs. Unless these outfits have nursing openings or built in diaper bags inside the coat, I'm having a difficult time figuring out what special needs could possibly be had by women when it comes to outdoor clothing. When you're doing a twenty mile hike, fashion really shouldn't be a big concern. Comfort and safety on the other hand .;)

How indeed. Now there are only a few shops in D.C. which offer the good stuff and they charge a premium, so I save my pennies and hit the thrift stores looking for pieces from bygone days.

Mostly what I don't love, though, is how this weather turns our neighborhood into a virtual ghost town. It always seems that it's winter that gets the bad rap, but in much the same way that that season inspires a hasty retreat to the indoors, we all just as quickly withdraw to the sanctuary of our cool, air conditioned homes when the mercury starts to rise. We seal up our doors and windows, draw the blinds and close the curtains to keep out the ferocious heat . and the sound of chirping crickets pervades the neighborhood as a lone tumbleweed rolls down the street. Summer has arrived in all its scorching glory, and suddenly, there's not a soul in sight.
