Wool Outdoors Clothing
The Mexican sombrero is a kind of big size hat that can be fun to wear. Since sombreros were made for a tropical climate, they are always comfortable when it's hot and sunny. Appropriately enough, this hat was named after the word for shadow in Spanish. These are generally straw hats, and you can find them in many colors with various designs on them. These are great big hats to wear on vacation or for any occasions when you'll be spending time in the sun. Whether you shop for them over the internet or in a local store that sells products from Mexico, sombreros are not usually hard to find.
The wool pants I purchased were a good choice. A number of Yukoners admired them and asked where I bought them (Cabela's Outdoor store in the men's hunting section). The cargo pockets on the legs made carrying my notebook, pens, etc. easy and, coupled with two pair of long underwear, kept me snug. For outdoor activities like snowmobiling, I added the ski over pants to cut the wind and keep me dry.
I always took along my pashmina as a neck scarf and, when it got very cold, my Turtle Fur to pull up over my face (you don't want to expose your skin or breathe in air when it's too frigid). I used my neoprene half face mask (which I use for motorcycling) when we snowmobiled and was glad I had it (and others wished had one too).
A good base layer is the foundation of the system and until very recently the best thermal tops and leggings were made from polypropylene and other plastics. Man made fabrics like these are very good at wicking away sweat and keeping climbing bodies dry and they are reasonably warm. There was just one problem- the smell.
